Summary

Hey you guys, it’s Leslie。 I’m excited to share my story with you。

Now, I’m gonna be honest: Some of the details might be vague because a b*tch is fifty-five and she’s smoked a ton of weed。 But while bits might be a touch hazy, I can promise you the underlying truth is REAL。 Whether I’m talking about my childhood growing up in the South, my early stand-up days driving from gig to gig through the darkest parts of our country and praying I wouldn’t get murdered, what Chris Rock told Lorne Michaels, that time I wanted to shoot Whoopi Goldberg on SNL, and yeah, I’ll tell you all about Ghostbusters and the nudes and Supermarket Sweep and The Daily Show 。 。 。 I’m sharing it all in these pages。 It’s not easy being a woman in comedy, especially when you’re a tall-*ss Black woman with a trumpet voice。 I have to fight so that no one takes me for granted, and no one takes advantage。 These are the stories that explain why。 (Cue the Law & Order theme。)

It was just ok。 If you've heard Leslie on any podcasts。 Her story is so much more interesting than the book。 I still love her but reading about her just isn't the same。 It was just ok。 If you've heard Leslie on any podcasts。 Her story is so much more interesting than the book。 I still love her but reading about her just isn't the same。 。。。more

The author definitely has her own vocabulary, and her story is one heck of a ride!

Hilarious! Please listen to the audio; Leslie is the narrator。 It honestly feels like she is telling you stories and not reading a book。

I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't this (but this was good, if that wasn't clear)。 This was a life story, with all its turns and bumps, blemishes and shine。 It was like learning the real person, not some polished version of someone's story。 This was Leslie Jones telling you exactly who she is。 I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't this (but this was good, if that wasn't clear)。 This was a life story, with all its turns and bumps, blemishes and shine。 It was like learning the real person, not some polished version of someone's story。 This was Leslie Jones telling you exactly who she is。 。。。more

This is a WILD RIDE, a thrilling and generous life story。 Vacillates between vulnerability, shocking honesty, laugh-out-loudness, and so much intense love and awe。 The audiobook is worth it— I laughed and cried along with the ups and downs, and especially loved the last few chapters, where she writes about the imaginary guy named Merle who was brought into being by her hemorrhoids, followed by a harrowing account of racism on-set, followed by a bunch of triumphant decisions and insights that pul This is a WILD RIDE, a thrilling and generous life story。 Vacillates between vulnerability, shocking honesty, laugh-out-loudness, and so much intense love and awe。 The audiobook is worth it— I laughed and cried along with the ups and downs, and especially loved the last few chapters, where she writes about the imaginary guy named Merle who was brought into being by her hemorrhoids, followed by a harrowing account of racism on-set, followed by a bunch of triumphant decisions and insights that pull the whole book together。 。。。more

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5。 Listening to Leslie Jones tell her story is an experience。 She doesn’t hold back, detailing her upbringing and struggles as she rose to the top as a comic。 She is humble but confident, funny, and has a ton of great takeaways。 It’s a long audiobook and a time investment, but an enjoyable one。

I’ll continue my tradition of not giving any stars to memoirs, but I did want to say this:I listened to the audiobook of this memoir, read by Leslie herself。 I enjoyed it immensely, but I also enjoy Leslie’s humor and personality in general。 For those leaving 1 and 2 star reviews because of the profanity…I’m genuinely confused as to what you thought you were getting into with this book。 This wasn’t going to be some flowery literary tome。。this book is unapologetically Leslie。If you actually care I’ll continue my tradition of not giving any stars to memoirs, but I did want to say this:I listened to the audiobook of this memoir, read by Leslie herself。 I enjoyed it immensely, but I also enjoy Leslie’s humor and personality in general。 For those leaving 1 and 2 star reviews because of the profanity…I’m genuinely confused as to what you thought you were getting into with this book。 This wasn’t going to be some flowery literary tome。。this book is unapologetically Leslie。If you actually care about the use of the word f**k, then you’re in the wrong place。 It’s in the title ffs… 。。。more

Absolutely hysterical audiobook! A must listen。 A need to read the book now too as Leslie admitted to not sticking to her memoir。 It was so much fun to listen to the audiobook。 Leslie is a freaking genius

Leslie Jones' memoir is a rollercoaster of emotions, blending humor and raw honesty。 She shares her journey from a challenging past, marked by child abuse, racism, and sexism, to her rise as a celebrated comedian and actress。 What stands out is Leslie's vulnerability and resilience; she doesn't play the victim but confronts her past head-on。Her story reveals how she channeled her rage into sports, preventing a darker path。 Throughout her life, she faced adversity - from bullies to toxic relation Leslie Jones' memoir is a rollercoaster of emotions, blending humor and raw honesty。 She shares her journey from a challenging past, marked by child abuse, racism, and sexism, to her rise as a celebrated comedian and actress。 What stands out is Leslie's vulnerability and resilience; she doesn't play the victim but confronts her past head-on。Her story reveals how she channeled her rage into sports, preventing a darker path。 Throughout her life, she faced adversity - from bullies to toxic relationships and financial struggles。 Despite the setbacks, Leslie's determination shines through。 Her narrative is a testament to the power of self-discovery and laughter in the face of adversity。Leslie's humor and authenticity make her a relatable figure, and her memoir serves as a source of inspiration, especially for young Black individuals。 Her message of love, understanding, and embracing one's uniqueness resonates throughout her book。 Leslie's story is a journey of finding one's beauty and strength, and her unwavering determination is both admirable and entertaining。 。。。more

Les Jones made me laugh so hardRecommend the audio book Very interesting to hear her story。 Super interesting and entertaining。Highly recommend!

Ali

Less a book than a stream-of-consciousness oral history of Leslie’s life, told in a way only she could, unrepentantly vulgar!

I shall preface with saying: I LOVE Leslie Fucking Jones。 I wanted to love the book Leslie Fucking Jones too。 For me though。。。this was so scatterbrained。 At points that should be detailed, it was vague。 At portions where it could have been general, it had too many details。 So while this does have gumption and humor, like Leslie herself, it did not do it for me。

Susan Heim

Reading some other reviews they mentioned how funny the book is - LJ is very funny。 But it wasn’t non-stop humor, she touches on some really hard themes, describes some complicated relationships, and shares how her faith sustained her even as she made mistakes。

Carrie C

Audiobook version。 Leslie does not read the book - instead the recording is 17 hours straight of storytelling。 Unreal!

Lou

A masterclass in an audiobook 16hrs of tears and belly laughs

Leslie F*cking Jones is one of my favorite comedians of all time, and now one of my favorite audiobook narrators of all time。 This memoir is so honest, so heartfelt, no bullshit—all the qualities that drew me into Leslie's comedy in the first place。 I love her。 There are so few people in the media who are this open about。。。 well, literally everything。 She had me laughing, crying, thinking, yelling "YES! THIS!", reflecting。 I don't think she gets the level of respect (or fame) she deserves becaus Leslie F*cking Jones is one of my favorite comedians of all time, and now one of my favorite audiobook narrators of all time。 This memoir is so honest, so heartfelt, no bullshit—all the qualities that drew me into Leslie's comedy in the first place。 I love her。 There are so few people in the media who are this open about。。。 well, literally everything。 She had me laughing, crying, thinking, yelling "YES! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I listened to this book on audio。 There were points where I was laughing so hard I had to stop my walk or whatever activity I was doing and hold myself up。 So much of it is so funny。 The first dozen hours felt like stand up comedy and I really enjoyed it。 The last couple hours were more serious but Leslie had some life lessons she wanted to repeat and it was worth the listen。One warning - don't eat while listening to the hemorrhoids discussion。 But take the lesson on dealing with your health ser I listened to this book on audio。 There were points where I was laughing so hard I had to stop my walk or whatever activity I was doing and hold myself up。 So much of it is so funny。 The first dozen hours felt like stand up comedy and I really enjoyed it。 The last couple hours were more serious but Leslie had some life lessons she wanted to repeat and it was worth the listen。One warning - don't eat while listening to the hemorrhoids discussion。 But take the lesson on dealing with your health seriously。 。。。more
